From the Kansas City Royals 1981 Media Guide:
...has turned in 6 seasons in the Royals' minor league chain...is a scrappy hitter in addition to being solid defensive outfielder...has good speed...may make a bid for parent club in the spring, but will likely open the 1981 season on the triple-A level at Omaha
1980 Highlights: Dan enjoyed a strong campaign at Omaha in his first stint on the triple-A level...was a consistent hitter throughout 1980 and finished the year 4th in the American Association batting race with a career-high showing (.320)...had several long hitting streaks, including a pair of 8-game skeins, three 6-game streaks, and three 5-game streaks...during one 8-game stretch from May 25-June 1 he hit .519 (14 for 27) with 7 RBI and in other 8-game streak from May 11-20 he was 11 for 26 (.423) with 4 stolen bases and 4 RBI...recorded a 5-hit contest, a 4-hit outing and seven 3-hit games in 1980...enjoyed a perfect 5 for 5 showing with a triple and 2 RBI in Omaha's 15-6 triumph over Iowa on May 5...another big outing was a 4 for 5 showing with a double and 2 RBI at Denver on August 29...Dan also recorded a fine showing in the outfield, posting a .982 fielding percentage that listed 4th among loop regulars...made only 3 errors in 170 chances and 93 games...in addition to his outfield chores Dan filled in at 1st base and also saw considerable duty as a designated hitter.
Career Highlights: Dan begins his 7th season in the Royals' organization...has compiled a steady minor league career, but has been particularly productive as an offensive player the past 3 seasons...during the 3-year span he has hit at a .297 clip while averaging 69 runs, 46 RBI and 26 stolen bases per season...in 1976 he was a member of the Midwest League All-Star Team after hitting .291 at Waterloo...Dan graduated from Jamaica High (NY) in 1972 and attended Baruch College (NY,NY) prior to beginning his pro career in 1975...he was a batboy for the New York Mets in 1973 when they captured the National League pennant.
