| 1981 Highlights: Greg
spent the 1981 season on the triple-A level at Omaha...moved into the
catching slot on a regular basis June 13...responded with 12-game
hitting streak from June 20-July 4 with 16 for 41 (.390) to raise his
average from .208 to .263...the streak included a double, a triple, 3
homers and 7 RBI and he scored 7 runs...1 of his top games during the
streak was a 3-hit game (3 for 5) vs. Oklahoma City on June 26...he had
a pair of 3-RBI games, one on July 7 when he belted a 3-run homer at
Wichita to give Omaha a 4-3 comeback win...as the Omaha backstop he
posted a .982 fielding percentage in 77 games...he also threw out 32
base runners trying to steal...Greg was called to Kansas City in
September and appeared in 2 games, both as a catcher...his Major League
debut was September 27 at Seattle. |

his career in 1976 with Cubs' organization...was at Bradenton (A) of the
Gulf Coast League...hit 3 homers and collected 18 RBI in just 10 games
before moving to Pompano of the Florida State League...reached the
double-A level for the first time in 1978 with Midland of the Texas
League...moved on to the American Association in 1979, hitting .273 with
5 homers and 24 RBI in 46 games with Wichita. |
